New Clients – Redmond Automotive

Redmond Automotive is a great example of a long time Traverse City local business. They have been serving customers for their automotive needs for 25 years, and are located on 14th street in the middle of Traverse City. We have been working with them to create a website that is extremely straightforward, simple, and easy to use for their potential customers. Their goals were to make sure the visitors to their website understood all of the services they offer while maintaining a crisp, solid look that really catches the eye. We used some cutting edge photoshop techniques to make this site stick in the minds of the people who view it. Redmond Automotive has two locations, so this website is essentially a “two-in-one”. It showcases the services at their auto repair shop on 14th Street and also promotes the services of their Cass Street automotive accessories shop.

We used custom hand-drawn gradients and lighting effects to make every part of the site unique.

The site uses a lot of imagery while not removing prominence from the textual information. The photos below the header rotate through several pictures of their location and their staff.

Another new project we have been working on here is for Sherwood Manufacturing out of Northport Michigan. Manufacturer using robots to weld parts and products for Ford, GM, Volkswagen and many other major companies. Their needs were pretty clear when they came to us with the job. They are a technical class of company and needed to represent this in a new Website. A crisp clear robotic type of look and feel to show they mean business and that just because there located in a small town they mean big business when it comes to manufacturing.

With the use of darker colors and a sophisticated layered background texture that tiles the page I fashioned up a site developed for fast loading strong text information and a clean navigation that gets the user to where they need to go for their information. Our Newest Project – Creative Stone Designs

The latest project we are working on is for Creative Stone Designs. This initial concept has proven to be very challenging so far. The site will need to be heavy in imagery and the style will also need to reflect what their business primarily does. My strategy will be a solid combination of images with just enough text to tell about their core business. They have done many projects around the area and this Web site needs to reflect the work that they have done. The site will be clearly navigable by the user that will easily take anyone to where they want to be from any page. With the use of javascript and css I will use techniques to take the image galleries to the next level.

The Basics of Web Graphic Design

As you browse the web everyday, you would have come across innumerable websites that fail to impress both in terms of graphics and design. These websites are not formatted properly and consumes valuable time in loading. Are you aware of the reasons for this? These websites are not created by professional web designer and is done by an amateur with little or no experience in web designing and graphical presentations.

It is advisable to appoint a designing organization or a web designer to create a website with professional outlook. A professional web designer will avoid the mistakes made by the website owner and amateurs.

A professional looking and impressive website is built on the principles of ‘KISS’ or Keep It Simple Stupid basis.

Let us have a look at the basics of web designing:
• Background color: The color of the website background should not be too bright. Too bright colors would strain the eyes quickly and would deter the visitors from staying at the site for long. So, just visit some of the websites and check, how long you feel comfortable looking at the background without causing strain to the eyes. Choose a color, which is soothing to your eyes.

Use a font size that enables the visitor to read the content without any hassles. At the most make use of 3 types of fonts. Do not select the fonts in a haphazard way. Select the fonts carefully. The overall appearance of the website should be neat and simple.

• Page Size: Break the content of the website in to several pages. Having a very long page will deter the visitors to stay at the website. Thus, you need to plan the page length carefully, so as to capture your visitor’s attention.

In case you are making use of graphical presentations or things such as oil paintings, always keep it simple. It is observed that abstract art form works better as compared to the detailed reproductions of art.

Recently, we’ve been given the opportunity to revise, redesign, and revamp one of our client’s websites – Timberlee Hills Wedding Receptions.

Their old site was not bad, but it had several downsides. As with many old sites, the coding was not compliant with modern web standards, the search engine optimization was not up to scratch, and it really didn’t portray what they wanted to show the public about their business.

First Step When Building a Website – Your Domain Name

Registering a domain is one of the first steps when building a website. - Including words that are easy to spell.
- Choosing keywords or key phrases as part of the domain name.
- Using words based on your business name or the product or service you offer.

Ideally, it is recommended to choose a domain extension based on your company name. If your company name is not available there are alternatives to choice from. The domain name can be based on the product or service you offer. It can also include the geographic area where your business resides. The domain can be any combination of words and numbers. Most special characters are not allowed as part of the domain name although a hyphen is allowed.

There are also many domain extensions to choose from. The more popular and most recognized extensions are .com, .net, .org, .gov, .us and .edu. Here are other domain extensions that are becoming more seen: .biz, .info, .ws, .mobi, .web, and .firm. The domain extension should reflect the type of business entity you are.
